EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Please join this important ministry by filling out a form in the vestibule of the church. Here is yet another reason to do it:

On December 17, 2004, John Paul II approved a special plenary indulgence to mark the Year of the Eucharist.  According to a decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary, during the Year of the Eucharist a plenary indulgence may be gained by participating in acts of worship and veneration of the Most Holy Sacrament, as well as by praying vespers and compline of the Divine Office before the tabernacle.

Renew and strengthen your faith!  Make a real commitment to spend one hour a month with Jesus Christ, Truly Present in the Blessed Sacrament.  This weekend, please become a regular adorer of The Blessed Sacrament in our church.  Our Eucharistic Lord is available for your prayers and adoration.  Tell Him your troubles and worries.  Thank Him for all He has done for you.  Ask for more.  Apologize for all you hurt Him with.  Simply talk to Him in your own words, or use many prayer materials available in the chapel for your use.  Just do it.

We adore Jesus Christ, truly present in the
Blessed Sacrament, in Father Laske Chapel (South-East corner of St. Bernadette Church) every First Friday of the month, for 24 hours. We begin after the 8:30am Holy Mass on Friday, and continue throughout the day and the night. We complete our prayers with First Saturday Devotions in Church at 8:00am and the Holy Mass at 8:30am. Everyone is invited! Please sign in.

“Bishops and erudite liturgical authorities continue to endorse prayer and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament as one valuable means to holiness and a deeper relationship with God.  Pope John Paul II’s recent Encyclical: Ecclesia de Eucharistia emphasizes the immense value of perpetual adoration before the exposed Blessed Sacrament.  The purpose of adoration, simply said, is to sanctify ordinary Christian living.  These are but a few of the graces given:

-            to preserve marriage and family life

-            to intercede for priestly and religious vocations in the Church

-            to intercede for holiness in parish life and ministry

-            to intercede for the intentions of the pastor and the needs of parishioners

-            to advance the praxis of vigil prayer for graces upon the parish or any other community

-            to keep prayer going in the parish round-the-clock

-            any number of special intentions presented by parishioners, the local bishop, the pastor and concerns of the church universal.”

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

You will spend one holy hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Why?
The reasons are explained in a brochure titled:
“Prayer Before the Blessed Sacrament” by Fr. John Hardon, SJ.  You can find it on our table in the chapel on First Friday.

Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament is especially pleasing to God and fruitful for those who pray in this way and for whom they pray.

1.         1. “Faith in the Incarnation”  Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament arises from faith in the cardinal mystery of Christianity, which is faith in the Incarnation.

2.  “Faith in the Real Presence”  Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament is a
profession of faith in the real, bodily presence of Jesus under the
      sacramental veils.

3. “Faith in Christ as Miracle Worker”  All grace, power, and blessings
come from God, uniquely through the humanity of the Son of God.  And
His human nature is substantially and miraculously united to the divinity
     in the Blessed Sacrament.

4. “Faith in Christ as Food for the Mind and Will”  The spiritual nourishment
that comes from the Eucharist does not end with Holy Communion.  As we
pray before the Blessed Sacrament our souls are fed by our Savior.

5.         “Faith in the Love of the Father God”  God became man and gave us the Eucharist which is the Real Presence.  He did this to show us how much He loves us and how much He wants to be with us.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To ensure that Eucharistic Adoration goes on smoothly in our church, please

1.         Come at the hours you committed to and be there on time.

2.         Remember to sign your name in the sign-in book.

3.         Help yourself to religious materials on our table and often look for new ones.

4.         Do not leave the chapel until adorers from the next hour come over.  The Blessed Sacrament must never be left unguarded!  It is our responsibility and a great honor – to protect It.

God bless you and may you find peace, healing and happiness in your faithful way of life!  We will see you in Fr. Laske Chapel every first Friday of the month.

“I am grateful to […] all those who spend time with the Lord
in Eucharistic Adoration in our parishes."

Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. -Archbishop of Chicago

Also, please read “God whispers here” in Daily Southtown from February 2, 2004.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have Perpetual Adoration in our church?

"The Eucharist both gives us the zeal to introduce others to Christ and is itself the greatest gift we are to share, for it is Christ himself."

Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I.

By spending quiet and prayerful time in the Chapel, in the presence of the exposed Eucharist, we get closer to Jesus Christ Himself.

“May our Adoration never cease.”

Pope John Paul II

Jesus is restful water and raging storm.  He is cool oasis and burning sand.  He is whisper of wind and bolt of thunder.   In all ways, and always, HE IS CONSTANT IN HIS LOVE.  He loves us, cares for us, listens to us, guides us.

Active participation in Eucharistic adoration gives us a good chance to re-center our lives on Jesus.

"Seek the Lord while He can be found.  Call to Him, while He is still near."

Laske Chapel is open all day and overnight for private

Here are some fruits of Eucharistic Adoration.

1.       Increased vocations to the priesthood.

2.       Mother Teresa of Calcutta said: “It was not until 1973, when we began our daily Holy Hour that our community started to grow and blossom.”

3.       Many blessings, miracles and numerous benefits.

4.       People become more personally involved with Christ.  This is the way to have a truly personal relationship with Jesus.

5.       People are helped in their spiritual growth.  Jesus is the one Person who is really there for all of us.

6.       Through Eucharistic Adoration we answer Jesus for His presence in the Blessed Sacrament day and night - love for Love.

7.       Eucharistic Adoration is an acknowledgement of our total dependency on Him Who says: “I am the vine and you are the branches; whoever remains in union with Me will bear much fruit, for without Me you can do nothing” (Jn 15:5).

Through Eucharistic Adoration we respond to the call of Jesus to “watch one hour” with Him which touches Christ’s Heart and releases a new outpouring of His Love upon the world.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Here are some Church reasons to spend time with Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

1.         "Jesus waits for us in this Sacrament of Love" *

2.         "Every member of the Church must be vigilant in seeing that this Sacrament shall be given back 'love for love'." **

3.         "Our communal worship at Mass must go together with our personal worship of Jesus in Eucharistic adoration in order that our love may be complete." **

4.         "Beneath the Sacred Host, Christ is contained, the Redeemer of the world." ***

5.         "Our essential commitment in life is to grow spiritually in the climate of the Holy Eucharist." **

6.         "How great is the value of converse with Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, for there is nothing more consoling on earth, nothing more efficacious for advancing along the road to holiness!" ***

7.         "Christ is truly the Emmanuel, that is, 'God with us' day and night, He is in our midst. He dwells with us full of grace." ***

8.         "Jesus teaches those who come to Him to be like Himself, gentle and humble of heart, and to seek not their own will, but the will of God." ****

9.         "The Divine Eucharist bestows upon the Christian people an incomparable dignity." ***

Please become a faithful Eucharistic Adorer in our Church!

Why do we do it?
There are many reasons, both Biblical and Church reasons.  Some of the Biblical reasons are as follows.

1.        HE IS REALLY THERE!

2.        BECAUSE OF HIS INFINITE LOVE FOR US!

3.        When we look upon the Sacred Host, WE LOOK UPON JESUS, the Son of God.

4.        Each moment that we spend in His Eucharistic Presence will INCREASE HIS DIVINE LIFE WITHIN US and deepen our personal relationship and friendship with Him.

5.        Each hour we spend with Jesus will DEEPEN HIS DIVINE PEACE within our hearts.

6.        Jesus will give us ALL THE GRACES WE NEED to be happy in life.

7.        Each moment we spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament BRINGS JOY, PLEASURE AND DELIGHT TO HIS SACRED HEART!

While reading the Bible and contemplating these reasons to adore Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, we realize more and more the value, importance and the need of spending time with Jesus.  When we do that, every First Friday of the month, anytime during the 24-hour period, in Fr. Laske Chapel in our Church, we are showered with God’s graces and blessings.  Please join us and experience the sweet peace coming from being in the Presence of God!

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION - Testimonials

“I am grateful to the Pope John Paul II Eucharistic Adoration Association and to all those who spend time with the Lord in Eucharistic Adoration in our parishes."

Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. -Archbishop of Chicago

“I go to the chapel daily to be inspired. The faith of the adorers, their joy to be in His Presence, their peace that He is with them all touch me deeply. Strengthened by the grace of God sharing the air of the chapel, I, too, succumb to peace and joy.”

Father Lawrence J. Malcolm, Pastor

St. Daniel the Prophet Church, Chicago, Illinois

“The Eucharistic chapel provides a rich and hallowed place where visitors and believers can get a taste and feel of God’s tender unconditional love for them. For until we discover that we are loved and cherished just as we are, we will not be able to reach out in genuine love to others.”

Father Bernard J. Pietrzak, Pastor

St. Raymond De Penafort Church, Mt. Prospect, Illinois

“St. Bede’s Eucharistic Chapel bears witness to the Presence of our Lord at every moment of our lives. In God’s Presence we find strength.”

Father Brian A. Lisowski, Pastor

St. Bede the Venerable Church, Chicago, Illinois

Please come to Father Laske Chapel every First Friday of the month to pray to our Eucharistic Lord.  Everyone is welcome, day or night!

We are very happy that fifteen new people joined adorers (also called honor guards) of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament in our church.  We welcome you very warmly and hope you will stay with us for many years to come.  There are currently over one hundred regular honor guards of the Blessed Sacrament in our church.  We meet in Fr. Laske Chapel every First Friday of the month for a twenty-four hour spiritual feast.

It is always possible to join the Eucharistic Adoration ministry in our church.  Just please sign in (as all adorers are requested to do) and write your phone number and we will call you.  The lists of names on the posters will be updated in June, when everyone will have a chance to change their day or hour, if necessary.  Thank you for your cooperation and, first of all, for your faithful and loving attitude towards Jesus Christ.

“No where on earth are you more welcomed, no where on earth are you more loved, than by Jesus, living and truly present in the most Blessed Sacrament.  The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time that you will spend on earth.  Each moment that you spend Jesus will deepen your union with him and make your soul everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in heaven, and will help bring about an everlasting peace on earth.”

Mother Teresa, Special Eucharistic Adoration Issue of Immaculata

Many parishes do the same, some a lot more often than our own.  Some do it once a week, and others even perpetually, meaning all the time.  The Holy Father opened a chapel of perpetual adoration with The Blessed Sacrament exposed in a monstrance in St. Peter’s Basilica on December 2, 1981.  The Holy Father stated at the time that he would like to see such a chapel in every parish of the world.

Won’t you, please, come to Fr. Laske Chapel every First Friday?  The Lord is waiting for you.  Please don’t make Him wait too long..

“Why a Holy Hour before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament?  Many people ask that question.  Here is a satisfactory answer, we think: Jesus Christ, the God-Man, is present in the special way called ‘transubstantiation’, in which the very substance of the bread and wine are changed into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.  By praying before the Eucharist, we pray before the Godhead.”

“How to Make a Holy Hour” brochure,

Marytown, Libertyville, IL.

Numbers speak for themselves…

Our church is among forty-two parishes which adore the Blessed Sacrament monthly.  Twenty-one parishes have Eucharistic Adoration weekly.  There are sixteen churches with Eucharistic Adoration taking place more than once a week.  And there are fourteen churches with Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration (24 hours a day/7 days a week) in the area in the Archdiocese of Chicago!  These numbers come from a brochure with a 2002 Directory of Adoration chapels in the Archdiocese, published by The Pope John Paul II Eucharistic Adoration Association of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Mother Teresa said:  “Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration offers to our people the opportunity to join those in religious life to pray for the salvation of the world, souls everywhere and peace on earth.  We cannot underestimate the power of prayer and the difference it will make in our world.”
